A Stitch in Time: How a Creative Workshop Sparked Joy and Connection

When Victoria and her mom, Terese, from Needle Noodle walked into our program space with colorful threads, fabric, and embroidery hoops in hand, they brought more than just supplies. They brought a chance for our moms to pause, create, and care for themselves and their families in a new way.

Over the course of two recent visits, Victoria and Terese hosted our first-ever Creative Mending Workshop, inviting CGE moms to bring clothing items they wanted to personalize, repair, or embellish.

As the session unfolded, the atmosphere shifted. The usual buzz of conversation quieted into focused concentration. For some of the women, this was their first time ever holding an embroidery needle. Yet with gentle, patient guidance, Victoria and Terese helped each mom find her own rhythm and style. Stitch by stitch, plain garments transformed into colorful, one-of-a-kind pieces.

One thing stood out: the look in the mothers’ eyes as they worked. There was pride in learning a new skill, joy in creating something personal, and—most of all—love for their children. These were not just decorated clothes; they were tangible expressions of care and connection.

By the end of each workshop, laughter and smiles filled the room. Many moms left already talking about what they wanted to embroider next.

We are deeply grateful to Victoria and Terese for not only sharing their craft but also creating a space where our moms could see themselves as artists, makers, and nurturers. The threads they brought wove far more than fabric—they stitched moments of confidence, creativity, and love.
