Building Bonds Through Literacy at Katy’s Place
At Katy’s Place, we know that literacy is about so much more than learning letters and words—it’s about growth, connection, and giving our children the tools they need to thrive. Our curriculum is designed to nurture both social and emotional development, recognizing the challenges many of our little ones have faced even at such a young age.
Reading opens doors for our children, not only sparking imagination and joy but also helping them build emotional awareness and communication skills. When children engage with stories, they’re able to see themselves in characters, explore new ideas, and begin to express their own feelings with confidence.
We also encourage moms to read with their children daily. These moments of shared storytelling strengthen bonds, create joyful memories, and build self-esteem for both mother and child. To add to this experience, visitors like Board of Trustees Chairman, Nancy King bring an extra layer of delight when they join us to read aloud. The excitement and laughter that fill the room during storytime show just how powerful literacy can be in creating joy and connection.
One of the children’s favorite read-alouds comes from Ms. Laurie Lachs, who loves sharing Don’t Push the Button by Bill Cotter—a silly and interactive book that never fails to bring smiles.
At Katy’s Place, literacy is at the heart of what we do. It is a vital part of our mission at The Center for Great Expectations: to support families, build resilience, and help each child discover their voice.
Your generosity makes this possible. Every gift helps ensure the supportive environment our children need to thrive. Learn More About Katy’s Place
