Adult Residential Mommy & Me Program

The Adult Residential Mommy & Me program serves homeless, pregnant and/or parenting women with substance use disorders—and their children up to age five—who may have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and other trauma and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Informed by CGE’s foundational Trauma C.A.R.E.© model—designed to foster a culture of safety and nurturance, provide trauma-attuned treatment, facilitate relationships that heal attachment wounds and empower those we serve to participate in their own healing process—our preventative approach of Early Relational Health provides opportunities to build resilience from gestation through age five by building a secure attachment between parent and child, repairing ruptures that have occurred within the relationship and expanding upon moments of shared joy.

A multi-disciplinary team develops an individualized treatment plan and collaborates with each resident to meet the specific needs of a mother and her children, focusing on the family’s health and well-being. Through our care and services, residents are able to maintain early recovery and stabilize symptoms of co-occurring disorders. Additionally, our team works collaboratively with all relevant partners to prevent a removal by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency. If a child has already been removed, the clinical treatment team will work collaboratively with the mother in a concerted effort to reunite with the child.

CGE enjoys a longstanding partnership with the Rutgers School of Social Work to consistently collect and analyze client treatment data to ensure the best possible outcomes for the parent/child dyads and families breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma, substance use and homelessness.

The Adult Residential program is part of a full continuum of care provided by The Center for Great Expectations and supports the organization’s mission to provide a safe place, a safe presence, and a safe path to the clients we serve.
